Policy

‘Create a world class system for PE and School Sport for young people which will stimulate and increase their participation in sport, and sustain it’ (DCMS & DfES, 2008)

So along with this…’pupils to have at least two hours per week of high-quality PE and school sport delivered within the curriculum, and an additional two hours beyond the school day delivered by a range of school, community and club providers.’

So how does our project fit in with this?

Recognising that regular physical activity that is fit for purpose, safe and enjoyable and has the greatest impact on physical, mental and social wellbeing. (Department for Education, 2011, p.4-5)

Pupils across Years 1 – 13 spent an average of 117 minutes taking part in PE in a typical week. (Quick, Simon & Thornton, 2010, p.2)

Healthy, active lifestyles – an additional two hours beyond the school day delivered by a range of school, community and club providers. (Department for Education, 2011, p.5)

By end of academic year 2012-13: 60% of young people to take part in five hours of PE and School Sport per week (Youth Sport Trust & Sport England, 2009)

Our Dodgeball club will add an extra half an hour to extra curricular activity to the existing figures for those attending.
