Dodgeball 2nd session

The warm up (sumo) did get the participants heart rates increased and it was a task that made sure that they had to interact and communicate with each other. It was related to dodge ball as when the whistle went they were against their opponent and in the defence position.

The main session of numbers in a line and running in for the ball was a bit too much of an authoritarian role from the coach. As the participants didn’t get the chance to assess the situation and communicate with each other, but it did have a competitive element that kept them active.

In the session the bibs game was introduced and added a progression to the normal game of dodge ball. As when the participants were asked to start a normal game of dodge ball they got tired and bored easily, this progression enabled them to communicate and work as a team to complete the task.

For the next session we will ask to use the smaller sports hall as it would be a smaller perimeter for the participants to play the game and will make the tasks and ending game more intense.

We will use more progressions for the dodge ball game so the participants are always active and mind stimulated.

Figure 1 – a template for skill theme development

A skill theme is a progression from simple to increasinglycomplex skills without established finishing objectives, as opposed to the classroom where each level has established student expectations and finishing objectives in preperation for the next level
